Dr. Ryan Hovis is an independent contractor (website for Dr. Hovis), and is a licensed psychologist who has extensive experience working with children, adolescents, and their families, as well as emerging adults and couples. His background includes working in community mental health, inpatient, partial hospitalization, therapeutic day school, college counseling center, outpatient hospital, and private practice. Although well-versed in working with a wide range of emotional and behavioral struggles, Dr. Hovis specializes in trauma, abuse, neglect, family relationships difficulties, anxiety, depression, behavioral regulation, developmental disorders, cultural responsiveness and spirituality. Dr. Hovis received his terminal master’s in clinical psychology and his doctorate of psychology in clinical psychology from Wheaton College Graduate School. He also has been a guest lecturer at Wheaton College and Bethel University. Dr. Hovis believes in the importance of being seen and heard; that everyone’s story needs to be understood. He establishes a strong rapport, and in the space created with his clients, begins to explore each individual’s path to hope. Jennifer Ostergaard, Psy.D., L.P.

Dr. Ostergaard is an independent contractor (website for Dr. Ostergaard) and is an experienced licensed practitioner with specialized training in neuropsychology. She has been a licensed practitioner since 2006 and completed her fellowship training in pediatric neuropsychology through the University of Minnesota Medical School’s Division of Pediatric Clinical Neuroscience. Her research and clinical interests have focused on traumatic brain injury (TBI) assessment and recovery.

 Dr. Ostergaard has extensive training and professional experiences in both neuropsychological evaluation and clinical therapy. This combination makes her uniquely skilled to provide comprehensive assessment and targeted therapy services to meet individual needs. Her clinical passion is driven by concussion assessment and management, as well as return-to-school and performance enhancement for student-athletes. Paula Pitterle Ph.D., L.P.

Dr. Pitterle is an independent contractor (website for Dr. Pitterle) and is a licensed psychologist who has extensive experience working with children and adolescents, as well as their parents and families. Dr. Pitterle is passionate about her work and the families she sees, and strives to provide a safe and welcoming environment. Dr. Pitterle has experience in therapy and assessment with a broad range of presenting concerns including anxiety, depression, ADHD, behavioral concerns, autism spectrum, grief and loss, social issues, divorce, OCD, and issues associated with adoption, trauma, abuse, and attachment. Dr. Pitterle provides comprehensive psychological and developmental evaluation, with use of neuropsychological measures as appropriate. Robert Ogren, PsyD, MA, LP

Maggie Moe, Psy.D., L.P.

Dr. Moe is an independent contractor and owner of THRIVE Psychotherapy Services LLC. Dr. Moe provides both individual and family therapeutic services to children, adolescents, and adults. Jason Mayotte-Blum, Ph.D., LP

Dr. Mayotte-Blum is an independent contractor (website for Dr. Mayotte-Blum) and is a licensed psychologist, specializing in psychotherapy. Erin Gillen, M.A., LPCC

Dr. Stapelmann is an independent contractor and a Licensed Psychologist, who focuses on providing children, adolescents, and adults a therapeutic relationship that is responsive to their needs. Dr. Stapelmann has experience working with children and adolescents through play therapy as well as treating trauma, depression, non-suicidal self-injury, interpersonal difficulties, grief, and anxiety. She utilizes a relational psychodynamic approach that is emotion-focused and trauma-informed.

In addition to individual therapy, Dr. Stapelmann is also a certified PCIT (Parent Child Interaction Therapy) therapist. Through PCIT, families are able to receive help for their young children experiencing social, emotional, and/or behavioral difficulties.

Dr. Stapelmann earned a masters and doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from the Wisconsin School of Professional Psychology. Her previous training and employment experiences include a diversity of settings, such as community mental health, long-term hospital care, schools, integrated care, and residential treatment centers.

Michelle D. Sherman, PhD, LP, ABPP

Dr. Sherman is an independent contractor (website for Dr. Sherman) and is a licensed, board-certified clinical psychologist and has been providing individual and couples therapy for over 25 years. She approaches the psychotherapy process in a collaborative and empowering manner, helping clients draw upon their strengths to make positive changes to improve their quality of life and relationships. Dr. Sherman strives to offer a safe and nonjudgmental environment, to tailor research-based interventions to clients’ specific situations, and to instill hope.

She works with adults facing a wide variety of life experiences and challenges. Populations of special interest include military/veteran personnel and their families, healthcare professionals, LGBTQ+ individuals/couples, theatre professionals, and families who have a loved one managing mental illness or trauma/PTSD. Dr. Sherman’s clinical work is grounded in interpersonal psychotherapy, Behavioral Activation, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Emotion Focused Therapy.

Dr. Sherman earned her PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Missouri-Columbia and then completed an internship at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. She next directed the Family Mental Health Program at the Oklahoma City VA Medical Center for 17 years. She has worked many years in academia, having served as a Professor on the faculty of two medical schools, the University of Oklahoma and the University of Minnesota.

Dr. Sherman is the Editor in Chief of Couple and Family Psychology: Research and Practice, the journal for the American Psychological Association’s Society of Couple and Family Psychology. She is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association, and serves on the Board of the Academy of Couple and Family Psychology. In her personal life, she (and her co-author, her mother) writes books for families managing mental illness or trauma/PTSD.

Laura Lehman, MSW, LICSW

Laura is an independent contractor and owner of Redefine Mental Health LLC. She acknowledges it takes courage to trust another person with your story and face yourself honestly. Therapy can be a way to connect with our true selves so that we can show up authentically in the world and in relationships. You are not alone. Laura will walk alongside you as you work through healing past wounds, your relationship with self and others, or explore which path to take when it is all feeling too much.

Laura’s therapeutic approach is relational, non-judgmental, and person-centered. She strives to look at you as a whole person, seeking to identify your strengths that can be utilized as resources. Laura is intentional as she works to create a holistic and individualized approach for each client, most commonly drawing from somatic and psychodynamic therapies including Brainspotting and Internal Family Systems, as well as relational and cognitive behavioral therapies.

Specializing in individual and couples therapy for those 18 years of age and older, Laura enjoys working with a variety of presenting issues including grief and loss, unresolved trauma, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, and life transitions.

Laura is a Licensed Individual Clinical Social Worker in the state of Minnesota. She received her Bachelor of Social Work degree from Bemidji State University in 2013 and Master of Social Work degree from Augsburg University in 2017.

Danielle Stewart, PsyD, LP

Dr. Stewart is an independent contractor and Licensed Psychologist. She uses her sense of humor and connection to provide a warm and affirming experience for her clients. She specializes in psychological assessment of adults (18+). She began her career in Maryland where she completed her doctorate and provided assessment for clinical research. Upon moving to the Midwest she continued to hone her assessment skills while working in corrections, a college counseling center, and several primary care clinics. She has a wealth of experience working with culturally diverse clients, Veterans, and clients in medical settings who have significant mental and physical health challenges. Dr. Stewart's primary interests include ADHD evaluations, disability evaluations, and bariatric evaluations.

Scott Hanneman, PhD, LP

Dr. Hanneman is an independent contractor (website for Dr. Hanneman) and a Licensed Psychologist. He received a Bachelor’s degree from The University of Iowa with Psychology Honors and Distinction Honors. Dr. Hanneman then earned a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Louisville, with emphases in behavioral health, mindfulness, stress reduction, exercise psychology, and weight management. He completed his pre-doctoral internship at VA Central Iowa in Des Moines, IA and completed a post-doctoral fellowship in eating disorders and weight management/bariatrics at Park Nicollet in the Twin Cities (MN).

He considers himself a “generalist” psychologist in that he has had a wide breadth of experiences and training. He has worked in various clinical settings, including a pain clinic, hospital, eating disorder facility, primary care clinics, geriatric clinic, and a traditional behavioral health clinic. He has particular expertise regarding the relationship between physical health/medical conditions and mental health. Common, co-occurring medical conditions that he has training and experience with include diabetes mellitus, hypertension, weight-related complications, chronic physical pain (e.g. back pain, Fibromyalgia, post-operative surgical pain, arthritis), and neurological/movement disorders. Other topics and conditions he treats includes depression, anxiety, Bipolar II Disorder, eating disorders, particularly Binge Eating Disorder, ADHD, and “men’s issues” (e.g. anger management, intimacy concerns, excessive video game playing, etc.).

Dr. Hanneman prioritizes establishing mutual trust, respect, and a collaborative approach that is needed for best results. He offers a safe, non-judgmental space to facilitate personal growth and to improve quality of life. He has a passion for actively working with you to mutually identify attainable goals and to devise strategies to reach those goals based upon the best available research.

Interventions that he offers includes Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Enhanced Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT-E), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Chronic Pain (CBT-CP), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) skills, mindful hypnosis, and Motivational Interviewing (MI) skills, often targeting changing health behaviors, such as exercising and emotional eating,. He also plans to offer Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), beginning in spring 2024. In his leisure time, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, fishing, cycling, cooking, reading, listening to music, and, recently, cross country skiing. He works with individuals who are 18 years and older.

Ken Abrams, PhD, LP

Dr. Abrams completed his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Minnesota, his APA-accredited internship at the University of Vermont College of Medicine, and his bachelor’s degree at Dartmouth College. Prior to private practice, he worked for many years at mental health clinics and in central Minnesota.

Dr. Abrams conducts psychological evaluations and therapy with adults 18+ and has significant experience working with clients struggling with anxiety, panic, phobias, obsessions and compulsions, and trauma. In his practice, he uses evidence-based treatments, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).

Beyond his work at CDS, Dr. Abrams is a professor of psychology at Carleton College (Northfield, MN). There he teaches courses in psychopathology, cross-cultural psychopathology, and health psychology, and conducts research on the prevention of panic disorder and PTSD.

In his free time, Dr. Abrams enjoys long-distance biking, cross-country skiing, spending time with his family, and visiting the local dog park with his mutt.
